Trance TV Sounds

Certain television sounds can be very relaxing, inducing an almost trance like state.  Ever fallen into a little nappy time while watching Star Trek, lulled by the bridge sounds and Captain Kirk’s soothing voice?

Here are my picks for the top trance TV sounds to help you escape:

1) Star Trek, Original Series:  any of the Star Trek franchise will do in a pinch, but you can’t beat the sound effects from the original series.

2) Bob Cole (Hockey Night In Canada):  Bob Cole’s commentary brings passion and expression to the hockey broadcast, and I have been listening to him since I was a kid.

3) Antiques Roadshow:  the background crowd noises, detailed item descriptions by the experts, and the back and forth with the guests are sure to lull you into roadshow submission.

4) Turner Classic Movies and Robert Osborne:  Robert Osborne’s introductions and closing remarks are informative and soothing to hear, and the sound quality, pacing and carefully placed dialogue in many of the classic movies are designed to put you in another time and place.

Night Of The Hunter:

Robert Osborne on The Third Man:

5) John McEnroe (Tennis):  I love listening to John’s on air commentary.  His insight and humour is enlightening, and you can’t go wrong with the timbre of his voice and the sound of the ball getting batted back and forth.

6) Law & Order, Original Series:  Here’s how it goes:  opening theme song, episode setup, dun dun, talking, talking, dun dun, Sam Waterston, dun dun, talking over dramatic music, dun dun, closing theme song.
